About the event
Paolo Nori tells the story of Mikhail Bulgakov's novel The Master and Margarita. When Einaudi published it in 1967, Eugenio Montale called it a miracle to be greeted with emotion. The following year the Rolling Stones recorded Sympathy for the Devil, which Mick Jagger wrote after reading the book.
Bulgakov was a Russian writer born in Ukraine. In March 1930 he wrote to the Supreme Soviet of the USSR that in ten years of literary work he had received 301 reviews from the Soviet press, 3 favourable and 298 hostile and abusive.
Nori describes the novel as a book about good, evil, justice and the relationship between art and literature, and perhaps the most contemporary of the twentieth-century Russian classics. After Crime and Punishment, he sets out to tell it in 90 minutes.
