About the event

The Mercato del Forte is described as the most beautiful market in Italy and has been a fixed date for shoppers from across central and northern Italy for decades. It started more than fifty years ago and was conceived almost the opposite of a traditional market: a new, informal and enjoyable way of buying prêt-à-porter, with quality as the common thread.

The Wednesday market is the best known. It runs in summer and winter on the circular track and in the pine grove of Piazza Marconi, in the heart of the town.

The colourful stalls offer clothing for women, men and children, leather goods, furs, cashmere, shoes and beachwear. You will also find linens and homewares, ceramics, goldsmith creations and typical local food products.

Forte dei Marmi Wednesday market

The best-known market on the coast, running for more than fifty years and held summer and winter on the circular track and in the pine grove of Piazza Marconi. Dozens of stalls sell clothing above all: women's, men's and children's fashion, leather goods, furs, cashmere, designer shoes and beachwear. There are also linens and homeware, ceramics, jewellery and local food specialities. It is the market's own idea of quality rather than bargain-bin prices that draws visitors from all over Italy.

About Forte dei Marmi

Forte dei Marmi takes its name from the small fort in Piazza Garibaldi, completed in 1788 under Grand Duke Peter Leopold to guard the beach where marble from the Apuan Alps was stored and shipped. The town belonged to Pietrasanta until 26 April 1914, when it became a comune of its own.
