The Princess and the Dragon – actor's theatre with live music, ages 4 and up

About the event

In the kingdom of Dragonia, a fire-breathing dragon sleeps under a fairy's spell. A King throws festivals to protect his realm, while a rather rebellious Princess is made to stay in her room as everyone else celebrates in the square. Then someone disobeys, and something big, winged and very heavy wakes up.

The story follows a young musician, a baker's son, who saves the kingdom after all the brave knights have failed. It is an original fairy tale in which love and nobility of spirit go beyond social differences, and which encourages children not to judge by appearances, not to fear those who are different, and to use knowledge and dialogue against stereotypes and prejudice.

The show combines actor's theatre with figure theatre (small and large animated silhouettes) and the tradition of the theatre-song, with live music and original songs written in a language suited to young people.

Getting to Viareggio

By car, leave the A12 at the Viareggio-Camaiore exit; the Viareggio–Lucca link road joins the A11 Florence motorway. Viareggio station is on the Genoa–Pisa line and is the terminus of the line to Lucca and Florence, with regional trains towards Pisa, La Spezia, Lucca and Florence. From Pisa airport, the PisaMover shuttle runs to Pisa Centrale in about 5 minutes, where you change to a train for Viareggio.

Parking: On-street parking in Viareggio is mostly paid blue-line parking, run for the Comune by MoVer (Mobilità Versilia). Rates vary by zone; pay at the meters or with the MoVer app. The signs on site always apply.
