The Gruffalo – Musical for ages 3 and up

About the event

The Gruffalo, created by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, is known to children around the world through translations in more than 30 languages. This musical is produced by Fondazione AIDA ets and stays true to the original texts and illustrations. It was fully renewed in 2024 for the 25th anniversary of the book.

The actors keep the English author's rhymes and wear costumes based on the illustrations, so children can easily recognise the story. Original songs written for the show, comic and mime scenes, and dances are added to the tale, and the audience takes part.

The new sets bring the book onto the stage: the characters appear from an enormous book that fills the scene. Adaptation and direction are by Manuel Renga, with Ivan Portale, Matteo Fresch and Bianca Ferrarini.

Getting to Viareggio

By car, leave the A12 at the Viareggio-Camaiore exit; the Viareggio–Lucca link road joins the A11 Florence motorway. Viareggio station is on the Genoa–Pisa line and is the terminus of the line to Lucca and Florence, with regional trains towards Pisa, La Spezia, Lucca and Florence. From Pisa airport, the PisaMover shuttle runs to Pisa Centrale in about 5 minutes, where you change to a train for Viareggio.

Parking: On-street parking in Viareggio is mostly paid blue-line parking, run for the Comune by MoVer (Mobilità Versilia). Rates vary by zone; pay at the meters or with the MoVer app. The signs on site always apply.

About Viareggio
